Inflated Flowering Spheres   Leave a comment

These green Amaury Gallon bubble gardens appeared in public squares around Paris for three days straight. The flourishing installation took the form of metal framed domes filled with orchids and other luscious foliage.

Executed as a celebration of Parisians’ love of indoor potted plants, the Amaury Gallon bubble gardens created sheltered outdoor environment for cold passing pedestrians. Called ‘Ma Bulle, Ma Plante, & Moi,’ or ‘My Bubble, My Plant & Me,’ this one refreshing installation I would have loved to see.

Future Transit Hubs   Leave a comment

Chicago Union Station, as envisioned by German architects, Graft, intends to treat the users of their transportation hub as travelers and inhabitants.

The traveler needs to move efficiently, the inhabitant needs to move efficiently, so the challenge was to create a space that can accomplish both.

Chicago Union Station by Graft does that with a flair for the uber-dramatic.

The inhabitant seeks an extended stay; the coffee shop, the sunday morning market, life anchored to the city. The station becomes a rock jutting out of a raging river. The place of the inhabitant is at the center of the chaos, a place to better experience the city, a place to relax, a place to watch the chaos unfold. A space reserved for those staying, hot for those leaving.

Iceberg Architecture   Leave a comment

Would you ever imagine a getaway ice venue off the coast of Dubai? Sven Sauer saw all of that and put it together in the luxurious design for the Blue Crystal. The idea is a “swimming world of ice offshore Dubai, which shows
the bright variety of water and its beauty.”

Sauer’s design incorporates restaurants, ballrooms and underwater lounges. Aside from the beautiful features comes an astounding idea of sustainability that will have the Blue Crystal completely independent from the mainland as far as its energy and power are concerned.

Eco has yet to see something this breathtaking.
